Stuart Lipoff, the past president of the IEEE CTSoc and an IEEE fellow, provides coverage of the 101st annual National Association of Broadcasters conference in Las Vegas

Today’s CTSoc initially focused on addressing the technological challenges associated with the introduction of UHF TV in the USA, starting in 1952. A look back from the early history of RF tuner development to the present day showcases the evolution of this technology and highlights the early role CTSoc played in its development. IEEE GEM 2024 took place in Turin, Italy. The conference featured 3 Keynote speakers, 3 Industry Forum panels, 126 Oral presentations and posters, 13 Technical sessions, 4 Special sessions, 16 Demos, 2 Workshops and 4 Tutorials. It also involved major companies like Microsoft, Meta, STMicroelectronics, Ubisoft, MathWorks, and Logitech. The Conference Chair, Prof. Fabrizio Lamberti thanks the TPC Chairs, the Organizing Committee, the Technical Program Committee as well as reviewers and attendees for their great support. IEEE GEM 2025 will be held next July in Taiwan.

IEEE CTSoc has agreed to take the lead of IEEE Digital Reality. IEEE Digital Reality was launched as an IEEE Future Directions Initiative in early 2019, with a broad cross-section of IEEE Societies and other Organizational Units as active participants and stakeholders. In 2023, the IEEE Digital Reality Initiative started to transition into a Technical Community. 7 Societies, Councils and Organizations Units have agreed to join, by signing the MOU and financially supporting the IEEE Digital Reality Technical Community.
